The Basics of Kiln Drying for wood

  • 2024-08-23

1.1 Basic structure of wood drying kiln

The wood drying kiln is composed of aluminum alloy metal shell, ventilation system, heating system, spraying system, moisture venting system and automatic control system. The control method of wood drying kiln - realize fully automatic control of drying with the computer.

1.2 Working principle

Loading the wood stacks into the drying kiln according to the method of sawn wood storage. The radiators heat up the air inside the kiln, and the fans circulate the hot air through the radiators.

After the temperature rises, the hot air passes through the wood stack to complete the drying of the wood. When the ambient humidity inside the drying  kiln higher than the basic requirements, open the venting dampers through venting actuator to release moisture, inhale an appropriate amount of fresh air.

When the ambient humidity is compatible with the basic requirements, close the dampers, so as to   achieve wood drying. In order to dry the sawn wood evenly, the fan blows air in both directions.

1.3 Benefits of kiln dried lumber:

Creates a dry and stable wood product

Provides drastically a shorter drying time than other methods like air drying

Easier to control the moisture content

Minimizes the defects/flaws in the wood

Protects against fungal degradation

Gives a temperature above 160 degrees F that hardens soft woods – reducing resin

Helps minimize fungi, mold, insects and larvae in the wood

Makes furniture light weight by reducing humidity

Creates wood that is kiln dried can be finished in a shorter period
